Clare Cavell Bogle, my grandmother, was born in 1920. “Clare returned to college in the 1950’s on a part-time basis while raising her family, finally earning her B.A. in English in 1971 and an M.A. in Library Science in 1978, both from Northern Illinois University. She served as a school librarian and English teacher at Malta ISD for 15 years.“
In January, 2021 I graduated from the ALA Accredited Master of Information program at Rutgers University with a focus on library and information science. I am interested in public librarianship, especially information literacy, reference services, and evidence-based practices to improve patron experiences and programming. I believe people are strategic and creative information seekers and that librarians help them sharpen their skills.
My Work
- Collection Development and Management: My semester-long project was built around creating a collection development and management policy for a local early education school. As part of this work, I completed a community assessment, a policy statement, and a collection evaluation. I created a summary of my work for the school.
- Young Adult Reading and Literacy: My two favorite book talks – Monday’s Not Coming and Black Enough
- Information Literacy, Learning & Teaching: I wrote a teaching philosophy statement and created a lesson plan to teach an information literacy course for expectant first-time mothers in a public library setting in the United States. Here is my presentation of the lesson “Research and Write Your Birth Plan.” Please note: this presentation is not the full lesson, but an edited version to fit the time limits of the assignment.
